The Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce has just announced it canceled its St. Patrick’s Day Parade that was planned for this Sunday.
“We have been following updates on the COVID-19 (coronavirus) closely; at the recommendation of the County Executive and Suffolk County Department of Health, we will be canceling the parade,” the chamber posted on its Facebook page. “We will keep you informed as we determine our next steps.”
Parade participants should look for an email later today, Thursday, with further information, the chamber wrote.
Here is a statement issued by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone:
“Out of an abundance of caution as part of the county’s ongoing response to COVID-19, the Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has recommended that parades scheduled for March 14 or March 15 be postponed.”
Patchogue Chamber leaders have postponed their parade, which was scheduled for the following Sunday, March 22. A new date has not been announced yet.
