Sayville girls tennis (12-0) wins first league title since 2009

The girls tennis team at Sayville High School has captured its first league title since 2009.

The Golden Flashes (12-0) served up an undefeated regular reason in Suffolk’s League III, then won the county’s Division II tournament earlier this week.

Coach Stephen Aronson said the team will be well-represented at the county finals on April 22 and 23.

“We have our entire starting lineup going to counties,” he said. “I’m pretty sure this is a first in school history.”

Mary Madigan, the Hofstra bound senior who is in her sixth varsity season, and teammate Abby Breen are the number 1 and 2 singles seeds in the county tournament. Kylie Person and Meredith Albertelli are also representing Sayville in singles play.

Sayville placed three doubles teams in the county finals — Jenna Guerra and Sasha Gagnon, Sara Jaklitsch and Riley Lapine, and Kate Leigh-Manuell and Karishma Patel.
