Sayville/BBP wins Suffolk’s League III girls swimming and diving title

|

Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point high schools’ combined girls swimming and diving team has earned Suffolk’s League III title and 11 members of the team will compete in this week’s county finals.

Before winning the League III meet on Friday, Sayville finished the regular season undefeated in league play, winning each of the team’s five individual meets.

The highlights from Friday’s meet included:
• Jordan Carpentieri broke the team record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:04.87.
• Brenna Horan qualified for the state championships in the 100 Butterfly.
• Chloe Jeffares did well enough to qualify for the county finals in the 100 Freestyle.
• Taylor Carpentieri qualified for county finals in the 100 Breaststroke. She had already qualified for the county championships.

At Sayville/Bayport-Blue Point’s final dual meet earlier this month against West Babylon, Kathryn Brady qualified for the state championship in the 200 IM, while Jordan Carpentieri and Emma Haas earned spots in the states in the 100 Butterfly.

Sayville High School junior Jillian Rastello broke the team record with a diving score 303.6 points in the April 9 meet. The score placed her first in Long Island and fourth in all of New York.

Coach Nicole Mendez-Chicas reported that Jillian’s mom attributes her diving success to her 10 years as a competitive gymnast. Jillian traded gymnastics for diving in seventh grade.

The other team members set to compete in the county championship this Thursday, Saturday and Sunday are Liz Bossert, Haley Hendershot, Calla Kolar and Shannon Swezey.
