Diehl’s two goals sends Sayville girls soccer to county semi-finals

|

Sayville girls soccer kept the train moving Thursday afternoon in their pursuit of a Suffolk County championship.

The Golden Flashes weathered the steady rainfall to take down East Islip, 2-1, in a hard fought, quarter-final matchup in the county’s “A” playoff bracket. Sayville, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, will now face Rocky Point at home on Wednesday.

Rebecca Diehl scored both goals for Sayville, one in each half. The first was assisted by Jordyn Messina. Bella Graziano set up Diehl for the second.

The home playoff win was the Golden Flashes’ 11th victory in this unique spring-time season. The team has lost just three games.

A win over Rocky Point would put Sayville in the Suffolk “A” championship game. Rocky Point (9-4-1) upset undefeated Shoreham-Wading River (13-0) Thursday, 1-0.
