Imagine how far they’ll travel now.

Brides-to-be already flew in from the likes of Florida, South Carolina, Maryland and Massachusetts to be fitted for gowns at Ivory & Main in Sayville.

But now that the already-popular, plus size bridal boutique has moved up Main Street into a bigger and better space, there’s no telling where their customers will come from.

“It’s important to have a space that makes it worth the trip,” Ivory & Main founder and owner Currine Polizzi said. “We have close to 50 percent of our business coming from outside the state. And now that travel restrictions are lifting, we’re getting back to normal.”

One of the reasons brides travel so far to shop at Ivory & Main is that the Sayville store is the only exclusive plus size bridal shop in New York state — and one of less than two dozen across the country.

Another reason is the strikingly pleasant experience they have in store for them during the fitting and purchasing process in Polizzi’s shop.

“I want to make sure they have a good time. It’s stress-free and it’s fun,” Polizzi, 44, of Oakdale said. “When you’re a plus size, that experience can be extremely scary if you think that nothing is going to fit you.

“When they come into my store, I have 350 gowns waiting for them — and they can try on 100 percent of them,” she continued. “It’s almost like therapy. It’s fascinating to see them come in stressed and filled with anxiety — and then to see them leave relieved. It’s like a huge confidence boost for them.”

The large geographical customer base is bolstered by five-star, word-of-mouth reviews and a potent social media outreach effort. Ivory & Main counts more than 100,000 followers on Instagram, Tik Tok, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest, combined.

The Tik Tok account alone has just shy of 71,000 followers. Meanwhile, the shop’s “Curvy God Mothers” have achieved celebrity status on social media.

“That’s how so many of these girls are finding us,” Polizzi said, touting the boutique’s social media marketing efforts.

Ivory & Main’s new location is at 53 Main St. in the storefront formerly occupied by Debra Canavan Classics, which closed in January. The new space, which opened Feb. 20, gives Ivory & Main nearly 1,000 more square feet than they were working with at 19 Main St.

“We’re able to take more brides now,” said Polizzi, who employs a staff of 10. “The space is much wider, giving us a lot more space for storage. Plus, we have a browsing area now, for plus size bridal lingerie.”

It also boasts a lot of curbside appeal.

“Their picturesque and enchanting window displays add such a visual appeal to the middle of Main Street,” Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Tyznar said. “The larger size of the building also gives brides a beautiful and more accommodating space for them to be able to say ‘yes’ to the dress.”

To celebrate the move, the boutique is hosting a Virtual Runway event on Thursday, April 1, at 1 p.m. The event will stream live on Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok.

The event will show off the new space and new gowns, while featuring giveaway gifts and a “Curvy Table Talk” starring the Curvy God Mothers.

Ivory & Main is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
