Wolfie the lost dog reunited with his owner in Bayport

|

Wolfie is back home with his family in Bayport.

The handsome German shepherd found precariously wandering along Montauk Highway in Bayport Saturday afternoon was reunited this morning with his owner.

‘The owner just picked him up,” said Priscilla Begley, whose fiancé Mark Di Leo found the dog about 4:30 p.m. Saturday and brought him to a local veterinarian’s office.

“(The owner) had to show proof, and as soon as the vet brought Wolfie out, he went crazy. He’s going home to be with a little girl who has missed him,” Begley of Holtsville told GreaterSayville.com.

Di Leo was at Grady Animal Hospital in Sayville for the heartfelt reunion. He first met Wolfie when he spotted the dog trotting across busy Montauk Highway near the Bayport Self Service Car Wash.

After bringing him to the animal hospital, Di Leo and Begley shared photos of the found dog in numerous Facebook groups. Meanwhile, Wolfie slept in a warm bed, overnight at the vet’s office.

“Mark’s (Di Leo) friend John shared the post on his Facebook page, and someone posted saying he had sat for this dog before, and he contacted the owner,” Begley said. “And (then) Mark was able to get the contact info and contacted the owner.”

It turns out that Wolfie had gotten loose from his yard, and wasn’t too far from home when he was found.

With Wolfie’s photos shared in so any places on social media Saturday night, it seemed it was just a matter of time before a happy reunion occurred.

“It’s so nice to know there are people out there who care,” Begley said.
