Civic association needs helpers for Sayville clean-up effort on March 20

|

The Greater Sayville Civic Association needs volunteers to help clean up garbage along Greens Creek on Saturday, March 20.

One area in dire need of tidying up is the strip along Montauk Highway. Another is a space often used as a shortcut from Montauk Highway to Sayville High School.

“All of these areas are part of the watershed that leads into our bay,” the civic association said, announcing the “Clean Sayville Green” event. “We can no longer ignore the garbage and the negative effects it has on our environment and ecosystem of the bay.”

The civic association asks that volunteers meet in the Sayville High School parking lot at 10 a.m. Volunteers should come wearing long sleeve shirts, garden gloves and hiking or rain boots. Vests, garbage bags and pickers will be provided.

With the proper amount of helpers, the civic association estimates that the clean-up will last about two hours.

Following the clean-up, Claws owner Frank Palmero has invited all of the volunteers to Claws for a thank you snack.
