The Blue Point community is stepping up to a help a family whose home and belongings were destroyed in a fire on Sunday, March 7.
The Bryant family — Chris and Mandy, and their children Ty and Jaycee — escaped from their burning four-bedroom home on Corey Avenue uninjured. Now, their neighbors are helping them get back up on their feet.
A GoFundMe page was started to benefit the Bryants, a family that has been very involved with the community. So far, 460 people have donated $51,000.
Additionally, The Better Man Distillery Company in Patchogue is hosting a fundraiser for the Bryants on Saturday, March 13, from 1-10 p.m.
“Chris and Mandy Bryant are lifelong Blue Point residents. They volunteer and give so much of their time to the community,” said James Powers, a member of the Blue Point Civic Association.
Chris Bryant is a little league baseball coach. Ty is a freshman at Bayport-Blue Point High School and Jaycee is a seventh grader at the middle school.
“It’s important to wrap our arms around this family because they have always been so involved in our community and now, in their time of need, it’s important as a community to show them we care,” Powers said.
Cortney Echevarria of Blue Point organized this fundraiser.
“Our good friends, Chris, Mandy, Ty and Jaycee Bryant of Blue Point suffered a house fire that destroyed their house and everything inside,” the GoFundMe reads, in part. “Thankfully everyone got out safely and without injuries! Let’s all come together and help this family out during these terrible times!”
The Bryants’ home is believed to have been 154 years old.
