Mama’s Italian Restaurant in Oakdale is closing for good

|

Good bye, Mama’s Delight. So long, Pasta alla Montanara. Mama’s Italian Restaurant in Oakdale will soon have served its last meal.

The decades old eatery where “everything is family” and all meals are cooked to order is closing, its owners announced Friday night.

“To all our valued guests and friends,” Teresa and John Passafiume wrote in a Facebook post, “it is with mixed feelings that we announce today the closing of Mama’s Italian Restaurant in Oakdale.”

The owners thanked their loyal customers for the countless “treasure memories”

“We’ve hosted birthdays, bridal and baby showers, communions, and so many more important family occasions,” the Passafiumes wrote. “We’ve watched some of you grow up from kids to having kids of your own.

“We truly feel we are leaving behind a part of our family,” they added.

For more than 20 years, Mama’s served up delicious Italian cuisine, while boasting Long Island’s largest gluten-free menu.

The Passafiumes took control of the restaurant in 2000 from Teresa Passafiume’s uncle, who was the original owner and opened up Mama’s in 1979. It’s not clear what will replace Mama’s.

“We’ve weathered snow storms, hurricanes, and now a global pandemic together, and we are grateful for the strength and support you have all shown us,” the owners said. “Although it is a sad day to have to say goodbye, we are also incredibly excited for what lies ahead.”

The couple noted that with the new ownership, the restaurant will be left “in good hands.”

“We hope it continues to be cherished within the community,” they said.
