Hot Chicken Mama in Blue Point featured on ABC New York news

|

Hot Chicken Mama, the Blue Point hot-spot that burst on the scene last month serving up Nashville-inspired spicy chicken, caught the eye of the Big Apple this week.

ABC News Channel 7 interviewed the owners and featured the eatery in a Friday report that detailed how the ownership team’s quarantine dream came to life.

“Opening up a business during a pandemic was super scary,” Nick Petro, one the owners, said in the news segment. “We were confident in our product and what we were doing, we really believed in it. It was scary but we were super confident in it.”

Hot Chicken Mama opened on Jan. 15, taking up residence in the spot Beyond Philly left behind when it closed in October. The idea for the restaurant was cooked up during quarantine by Petro, general manager at the South Shore Dive in West Sayville; and his friends, Bobby Gulinello, who owns The Cortland in Bay Shore; and Joe Esposito.

The new joint pays homage to Nashville-style hot chicken. Its dishes feature six levels of spiciness: homestyle (a non-spicy version), easy (a mild spice), medium, hot, loud and finally, extra loud.

Hot Chicken Mama is located at 168 Montauk Highway, and is open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
