Sayville’s own Jack Coan started graduate school this week at Notre Dame, where he’ll suit up next fall for the Fighting Irish football team.
The former Golden Flash arrived on campus in South Bend, Indiana, over the weekend, along with 13 other early, mid-year enrollees. His proud dad Mike, who owns Coan’s Landscaping in Sayville, took to Twitter to share the special moment.
Coan, with one season of playing eligibility remaining, is the frontrunner to start at quarterback for Notre Dame come September. He has transferred from Wisconsin, where he led the Badgers to an appearance in the Rose Bowl during his junior season in 2019.
Coan was expected to start in 2020 for Wisconsin, but he was sidelined by a foot injury during pre-season practice and never played. He has since fully recovered and is the frontrunner to start for Notre Dame.
Ironically, Wisconsin is on the Fighting Irish’s schedule in 2021. The two football juggernauts play Sept. 25 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Notre Dame earned a spot in the NCAA’s College Football Playoff this past season, losing to Alabama in a semifinal game. The Fighting Irish, who haven’t won a national championship since 1988, are hungry to contend again next season.

Before pulling up to Notre Dame’s campus, Coan needed to pack up and say goodbye to his pals in Madison, Wisconsin.
In the Notre Dame Football tweet below, Coan is pictured fourth from the right. He and 13 other early enrollees got their first look at the Guglielmino Athletics Complex, 96,000-square-foot facility nicknamed “the Gug.”
