Count Jack Coan’s Irish uncles among the many Notre Dame fans pumped up about the Sayville alum’s decision to transfer from Wisconsin to play for Notre Dame as a graduate student.
“They’re super excited … They’re all Irish guys,” Coan said during an interview on News 12 Long Island’s Sports Rush.
“Some of them have even got the little Fighting Irish tattoo on their arm,” he added, while grinning.

Here’s an excited Tweet from a fan of Notre Dame and Jack Coan:
“It’s an opportunity I don’t think anyone can pass up,” Coan said. “It’s kind of always been a dream of mine to play there. They have a great history of football players, and especially quarterbacks there.
“Growing up, I had a bunch of Notre Dame gear,” added Coan, who in high school had verbally committed to playing lacrosse at Notre Dame before signing on to play football at Wisconsin.
Coan helped lead Wisconsin to a Rose Bowl berth and a No. 11 ranking in 2019, throwing for more than 2,700 yards with 17 touchdown passes. He injured his foot in pre-season this year and did not play.
The returning quarterbacks at Notre Dame have seven pass attempts, combined.
Coincidentally, Wisconsin is on Notre Dame’s schedule next season. The Irish are slated to play the Badgers on Sept. 25 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
