15 photos: Bayport’s brand new ‘The Pizzeria’ is now open

|

Featuring a clean new dining room and kitchen and a straight-forward menu with delicious specialty pies that are sure to lure you back again and again, The Pizzeria in Bayport opened on Monday.

The new pizza shop replaces Tony’s Pizzeria, which had operated at 606 Montauk Highway for 22 years before closing in October.

While the owners bill these initial days as a “soft opening,” The Pizzeria is now open for business seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A grand opening event is being planned for next month.

“I have a lot of friends and family in this town, so I was excited to do this,” said one of the owners, Paul Saccoccio, aka “The Pizza Man.”

Joining Saccoccio on this venture is his younger brother Dan and their pal since childhood Cliff Weinstein. David and Jacob Zwaik of Bayport’s DJT Development are also part of the ownership team, as well as Carlos Delgado, an owner of Noble Savage Barbershop in Bay Shore.

The Saccoccio brothers own Gino’s in Ronkonkoma with their father Gino, and with Weinstein, they own The Pizzeria inside the Smith Haven Mall.

Anxious to give back to the community, the new owners will donate to local worthy causes a portion of the purchase price for every pizza pie sold at the shop.

“We asked ourselves ‘What’s the best way to help out the community that comes into our store?'” Saccoccio said. “The people that are taking care of us and our families: How do we give back? How do we show our appreciation? How do we take care of them?”

The owners are seeking the community’s input regarding which causes to support. Ideas can be submitted to greatcauses@thepizzeriany.com.
