Bohemia pastor dies from injuries he suffered in fall outside church

|

The pastor who tragically fell 10 feet to the ground while cleaning the gutters at his Bohemia church on Sunday has died, according to Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

Meint Ploegman, 65, suffered head injuries and was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he had been in critical condition. A church member found Ploegman lying on the ground outside Orthodox Presbyterian Church about 10:55 a.m. on Sunday and called 911.

“The Orthodox Presbyterian Church together with the Ploegman family would like to thank the Connetquot Community for their incredible outpouring of love and support throughout this difficult week as we lost our beloved Pastor Ploegman in a tragic fall,” the church said in a Facebook post early Thursday.

“It was Pastor Ploegman’s deepest joy and honor to humbly serve those in need in our community — and the many, many messages of love and stories of how he touched your lives has been of great comfort to us all.”

A funeral service was held to honor the pastor yesterday. Due to the pandemic, it was only open immediate family and members of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The service was live-streamed on the church’s Facebook page.
