Great River teen builds handicap accessible ramp in Sayville, becomes Eagle Scout

Town officials honored a Great River teen this week for his service to the community and congratulated him on becoming an Eagle Scout.

Julian Covarrubias of Great River Troop 205 led the construction of a new handicap accessible ramp at the Gillette House in Sayville as his major service project to become an Eagle Scout.

“This ramp is an enhancement to the Gillette House and to all the residents who visit,” Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said during a ceremony at the Gillette House honoring Julian and his scout leader, Scoutmaster Mark Businski.

The supervisor was joined by Islip Councilman James P. O’Connor and Parks Commissioner Tom Owens.
