Stanford lacrosse plucks seniors from BBP and Sayville high schools

|

College women’s lacrosse powerhouse Stanford officially announced its incoming class for next fall, and it includes Sayville’s Erin Schaefer and Bayport-Blue Point’s Maddigan Miller.

The travel teammates — the two midfielders met in third grade and have starred together for years on the Long Island Yellow Jackets — are part of a group of nine high school seniors from across the country committed to start play for the Cardinal in the spring 2022 season.

Erin said living and playing 3,000 miles away from Sayville will “feel like home” with Maddigan by her side.

“We always dreamed about going to the same college,” Erin said. “Now, we’ve made our dream a reality. It was the easiest decision of my life.

“It is the opportunity of a lifetime to receive a world-class education from a top university, to play the sport I love for an amazing coach, and to be able to experience this journey with my best friend,” she added.

Stanford head coach Danielle Spencer expressed her excitement about next year’s group of freshmen.

“This class is packed full of athleticism, speed, passion, and competitive fire. Most importantly, the young women in this class have great character,” she said.

As far as Erin Schaefer goes, Sayville girls varsity coach Adam Sznitken could not agree more. Check out his Tweet below:
