The Bristal at Sayville recognized for excellence by leading healthy building certification system

|

The Bristal at Sayville is one of the first two communities in the senior living industry to prototype and receive Fitwel certification, the assisted living company announced.

It’s a giant step toward the Sayville community becoming the standard for senior living residences.

The Bristal at Garden City is the other community recognized by the Fitwel® healthy building certification system, which highlights how a building’s design and operations can positively impact its occupiers.

“Both of The Bristal communities received two-star status based on a three star rating system,” said Maryellen McKeon, senior vice president of operations at Ultimate Care Management, which oversees operations at The Bristal communities.

“Only 22% of properties that apply achieve two-star status, and The Bristal is currently the only senior living property in the world to receive such certification,” she added.

McKeon said The Bristal Assisted Living hopes to soon receive certification for an additional 10 Bristal communities.

The Fitwel program was created as a joint initiative with leadership, research and evaluation being done through partnerships with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the General Services Administration (GSA).

Fitwel established a scorecard for assisted living, independent living and memory care communities that underscores the pivotal role housing plays in influencing health outcomes and provides approaches to positively influence living conditions.

The Bristal at Sayville scored high for architecture, occupant satisfaction survey, emergency preparedness plan, exercise facilities, safe entry and exit, stair safety, and proximity to transit, outdoor space and views of nature from apartments.
