It wasn’t just about finances.

Massage Fix L.I. owner Kristy Castagna also fretted over what her clients were missing out on — pain management and stress relief — during the three months she was forced to stay closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I was considered non-essential, and I rose above the crisis,” Castagna of Patchogue said today during a special ribbon cutting ceremony at her Sayville business, located at 146 Railroad Ave. “I want people to know that they don’t have to live in pain. I’m a text away.”

Opened three years ago, Massage Fix L.I. specializes in sports therapy and pain management, including deep tissue massages. The outfit works to manage and heal neck, sciatic and lower back pain. Massage Fix L.I. also treats piriformis, plantar fasciitis and occipital headaches. Lymphatic drainage and sports cupping massage are also available.

Chris Imperato, a long-time client and Massage Fix L.I.’s landlord, credits his healing from lower back pain and sciatica to Castagna, noting that he has “avoided surgery for seven years due to regular massage maintenance.”

“I look at what the problem is, without surgeries and prescriptions — I had three clients cancel surgeries after seeing me weekly,” Castagna said.

Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Tyznar said Saturday’s event was the perfect way to celebrate Castagna’s resilience.

“We felt it was a wonderful time to celebrate the third anniversary of a small business that took such a hit during COVID, and was considered non-essential,” said Tyznar, who organized the ribbon cutting with her partners at the chamber. “We consider Kristy and her massage services essential to enable us to all relax and unwind.”

Indeed, Massage Fix L.I. is a local favorite, nominated for two 2021 Bethpage Best of Long Island Awards for its work in holistic therapy and massage therapy.

Regarding safety regulations and concerns related to coronavirus, Castagna said her clients feel comfortable because “no two clients cross paths. It’s only the client and me. I’m constantly disinfecting.”
