Popular Beyond Philly joint closes in Blue Point

Their sandwiches were the opposite of just roast beef and melted cheese on a hero roll.

Jammed with juicy chopped ribeye, grilled onions and Cheez Whiz, these subs mirrored the Philly cheesesteaks you find across the city Rocky calls home.

And now, they’ve left us. Beyond Philly is closing after a delicious eight-year run in Blue Point.

“With mixed emotions, we have unfortunately decided to move on to new endeavors and new beginnings,” Beyond Philly owner Arnold Gifford said in an announcement today on Instagram and Facebook (see his post below). “We would like to thank each of our customers who have been there over the years.”

Gifford in the message teases that Beyond Philly may someday return to the area, noting that “we hope to have an opportunity to bring Beyond Philly to you in the future.”

For six straight years, Beyond Philly earned the Best Cheesesteaks award in the Bethpage Best of Long Island contest. The shop was nominated again this year.

Gifford has said the secret to his success in Blue Point was to stress quality and consistency and to “make every sandwich myself.”

It’s unclear what type of eatery is coming next at the former Beyond Philly location at 168 Montauk Highway, but Gifford noted the new owners will be serving up exciting new food very soon.
