Thousands in Greater Sayville area remain in the dark in wake of Isaias

|

More than 3,400 PSEG customers in the Greater Sayville area remain without today, according to figures on the power utility’s website.

PSEG’s “Power Map” as of 9:30 a.m. today showed more than 246,000 Long Island households remain without power — out of 420,000 affected by Tropical Storm Isaias, which ripped through the area on Tuesday.

On its Facebook page, PSEG said the work is getting done quicker than the company can update the numbers on its website, due to the large number of off-island crews brought into the service area this week. PSEG said about 160,000 customers on Long Island remained without power as of late Wednesday.

“We have restored power to more than 260,000 customers out of the approx 420,000 affected by Isaias,” PSEG indicated on Facebook. “85% of customers will be restored by end of day Friday.”

Crews have cleared fallen limbs or trees from 500 locations, and more than 2,000 lineworkers, tree trimmers and other personnel are working 16-hour shifts until every customer has power restored, the power company said.

PSEG also issued the following advisories and reminders:

  • PSEG has set up four water and ice stations — two in Nassau and two in Suffolk. The nearest one is at 460 E. Main St. in Patchogue.
  • Stay away from downed wires.
  • If you’re using a power generator, keep it outside and away from windows.
  • If you must speak with PSEG crews, please remain at least six feet away to ensure the health of everyone involved.
