Sayville’s favorite president gets great news

|

The good news keeps coming for Sayville High School’s new student body President Matt Zender.

Matt is now three months out from completing his last chemotherapy treatment and his scans are clear with no evidence of the cancer that the teen had battled from June 2019, his dad Mark reports. Additionally, Matt had his Mediport removed on Monday.

“Thank you everyone for all of your help and support!” Mark Zender posted on Facebook.

The Sayville community has been extremely supportive of Matt and his family, hosting multiple fundraisers to help offset medical expenses incurred by the family.

Last month, Matt, a captain of Sayville’s varsity fencing team, was voted student body president. His running mate and fellow triplet sister Katie was elected vice president.

Just over a year ago, Matt was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer in his lower right leg. It was discovered while Matt was being treated for a bone bruise.
