American Cheese in Sayville closes down permanently

|

Downtown Sayville’s American Cheese eatery is closing after a decade in business, the restaurant announced Tuesday.

After closing in May due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Railroad Avenue fixture had hoped to “come back stronger than ever” once the state eased its coronavirus safety restrictions. But the restaurant never reopened.

“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we must announce we will not be reopening,” the owners said in a letter to customers. “It has been an amazing 10 years and we owe that one hundred percent to our loyal customers who are now our friends.

“We owe it to you, and every awesome hard working employee that helped us not only do what we do, but brought their creativity to make it so much more,” the letter continued. “They were the friendly faces at the tables, the knowledge behind the counter, and the ones enduring the heat of a restaurant kitchen.”

The owners said that after the summer, they will be seeking their “next adventure.”

“A friend once said, ‘Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy it happened,'” the letter concluded.
