Unable to perform their annual Beatles medley together in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sayville High School’s wind ensemble instead have released an awe-inspiring virtual performance.
The nine-minute video features more than 30 ensemble members — including nine graduating seniors — playing instruments inside their homes. “Penny Lane,” “Yesterday,” “All My Loving” and “Hard Day’s Night” are among more than a dozen Beatles tunes featured in the compilation directed by high school band teacher Kerri Van Boxel.
“The high school wind ensemble has a long-standing tradition of performing a Beatles medley to feature the graduating seniors,” Van Boxel said. “Since we weren’t able to have a live performance, I’ve created a virtual performance so the seniors got their chance to shine!”
