Pandemic or no pandemic, Bayport second-grade teacher Christina Schroeder finds a way to be with her students.
She eats dinner with them, rides in the car with them for drive-by birthday celebrations and reportedly in some cases helps tuck them in at night.
Ok… Well, sort of.
With distance-learning in effect for the remainder of the school year, the Academy Street Elementary School educator developed a special way to still be with her students.
Inspired by the classic children’s book “Flat Stanley,” Schroeder used the Bitmoji app to create a cartoon representation of herself that her students could print out and bring along to keep them company during their daily activities.
“During this difficult time in the children’s lives, I felt it was so important for myself and the students to stay closely connected,” said “Flat Mrs. Schroeder.”
“The children had a lot of fun with this activity. It made me happy to see them taking Flat Mrs. Schroeder around town.”
Judging from the photos their families provided to the Schroeder and the school, the children in her class are flat out having a blast with “Flat Mrs. Schroeder.” Check out a couple of the pictures below.
