Video: 47 Connetquot seniors slated to play sports at college

|

Connetquot is sending 47 members of its Class of 2020 to play sports at College, the district’s athletic director Peter Melore said at the school’s college athlete recognition ceremony.

Held virtually for the first time due to coronavirus pandemic restrictions, the nine-minute ceremony highlighted each member of the group, which includes 18 students who have accepted offers to play for NCAA Division I programs.

“It’s so rare to have the opportunity to play college athletics,” said Melore, who listed the 47 student-athletes. “A small percentage of high school athletes go on to the next level.

“To have an opportunity to play college athletics puts you with the elite,” he added.

Among the fall destinations for this year’s Connetquot graduates are SUNY Stony Brook, Albany, Binghamton, Cortland, Plattsburgh and New Paltz; LIU Post; U.S. Naval Academy; University of Hartford; Iona; Pepperdine; and East Stroudsburg.
