Drive-in movie night at Oakdale’s Village Idiot on May 28

|

The Village Idiot Irish Pub is going old school in more ways than one later this month.

On May 28 at 8 p.m., the bar and eatery turns nostalgic and will host its inaugural drive-in movie night, showing the insanely popular 2000’s decade movie “Old School” on a giant movie screen in the parking lot.

For $50 a person, movie goers can enjoy the flick form the comfort — and safety — of their own vehicles, and get two bar drinks, mini chicken tacos, pretzel bites, chicken fingers and of course, popcorn.

But visit the VIIP’s website and get your tickets fast because there’s a 15-car limit. Additional drinks and food can be ordered during the movie.

The Village Idiot Irish Pub is showing “Old School” at 8 p.m. on May 28, drive-in style.

The Idiot’s pop-up drive-in is part of a growing trend across the country, as restaurants coping with coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions look for new ways to bring in customers without putting people in danger.

Mini drive-in theaters combine nostalgia, social distancing and good eating.

At least one other eatery in the Greater Sayville area has shown drive-in movies in its parking lot this month.

And earlier this week, Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Tyznar confirmed that the chamber has applied for permits to operate a temporary drive-in theater in Sayville on weekends this summer amid coronavirus related restrictions.
