A 101-year-old woman residing at Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center in Sayville has survived a two-week bout with the coronavirus.
Rose Leigh-Manuel fought off days and days of fever and chills brought on by COVID-19, and is now healthy and back in her room at the nursing home, said a spokesman for Catholic Health Services.
“She is again full of smiles, fully recovered and back in her room enjoying her favorite snack, vanilla-flavored Oreos,” said the spokesman, Greg Sleter.
Leigh-Manuel had plenty of motivation during her COVID-19 battle — in the form of her four children, 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
The centenarian attributed her longevity and victory over coronavirus to maintaining a positive outlook.
“It’s a combination of living right, having a good attitude and always keeping in mind that ‘this too shall pass,’” Leigh-Manuel said.
Leigh-Manuel’s survival has been especially good news at Good Samaritan, which has been hit particularly hard by COVID-19. Thirteen residents there have died from the virus, according to New York state.
