Easter Bunny will make the rounds in Sayville on Saturday — at a safe distance

|

The Easter Bunny will indeed bop around Greater Sayville this Easter weekend — but at a very safe distance from all of its adoring fans.

Supplying the big rabbit and organizing the Saturday event is the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce. Sensei Ray, owner of Shaolin in Bayport, volunteered to drive the Easter Bunny around Sayville and West Sayville in his pick-up truck, which will be equipped with sirens and a sound system.

The Easter Bunny will adhere to safety concerns in the time of COVID-19 and the state’s social distancing order while waving to the children.

From 10 a.m. to noon, the rabbit will be driven around West Sayville, then bounce around the streets of Sayville from noon to 3 p.m.

At 4 p.m., the Easter Bunny will settle down in “Bunny Pen” outside the Greater Sayville Chamberhouse, located in front of the Stop & Shop plaza.

“The bunny will practice social distancing and wave to children from the Bunny Pen,” said Chamber President Eileen Tyznar (who will be very hard to find on Saturday because she will be dressed in disguise throughout the day. — wink, wink).

“Right now, the children and the families in our community are feeling the stress and anxiety from the COVID crisis,” Tyznar continued. “They need something to believe in — something whimsical, something traditional and fun to allay their fears and give them joy. The Sayville Chamber wishes everyone a happy Easter and a joyous Passover.”
