Greater Sayville: Who do you stay home for?

|

Staff report

Maybe it’s for your elderly parents, or your uncle with an underlying health condition. Or perhaps, it’s for a nurse, doctor or another health care worker on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.

The state — as well as GreaterSayville.com — wants to know who you are staying home for during these difficult days.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo today announced a new social media plan that will carry the message, “I Stay Home For …,” and emphasize the importance of adhering to the social distancing requirements in the “New York State on PAUSE” executive order. The strict stay-at-home measures, he said, are paying off.

“We took dramatic actions in this state, and it’s working,” Cuomo said during his daily press briefing, noting that he stays home for his mother Matilda. “It’s flattening the curve, so far. If we stop what we are doing you will see that curve change.”

Gov. Cuomo said the curve of hospitalizations is “flattening,” though 779 people died from COVID-19 in the last day, the highest single day total yet during the crisis.

Locally, more than 350 people in the Greater Sayville area have tested positive for COVID-19, as Suffolk County continues to be one of the hardest hit areas in the world by coronavirus.
