Blue Point merge: Civic Association and Community Coalition

|

Blue Point’s Civic Association and Community Coalition have merged, it was announced this week.

The newly formed coalition pairs the 54-year-old civic association with the influential and highly passionate Blue Point Community Coalition (BBCC), which formed several years ago in wake of Seafield Inc.’s proposal to open a 76-bed, inpatient drug and alcohol treatment center at St. Ursula Center.

Moving forward, the nonprofit civic organization will assume the Blue Point Civic Association (BPCA) name.

“We are honored that the oldest operating civic organization in Blue Point considered our mission, accomplishments and vision in line with theirs and wanted us to continue their work,” said BBCA President Jason Borowski, who had been with the BBCC. “We view this merger as furthering our goals of forming a true coalition of civics, community groups and town officials to execute the mission statement of preserving our community.”

The BBCC in 2018 successfully fought proposed zoning changes that would have paved the way for Seafield to establish a drug and alcohol treatment center at St. Ursula Center.

The Bayport-Blue Point Library Board of Trustees purchased the eight-acre property for $3.65 million from the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk after Bayport-Blue Point School District residents in December 2018 approved a $16.85-million plan to purchase and convert the convent into a new community library.
