USA Today: MacArthur Airport (ISP) is America’s sixth best small airport

|

Long Island’s MacArthur Airport was voted America’s sixth favorite small airport in a poll conducted by USA Today.

“We are so grateful for the support we receive from this community, and for our loyal customers who recognize our convenience,” Islip Town Commissioner of Aviation Shelley LaRose-Arken said. “It was an honor to be nationally recognized.”

In December, a panel of travel experts with USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards nominated MacArthur Airport and 19 other small airports. Ove a four-week window that spanned the holidays, readers and customers casted their votes online. The small airport category includes airports that annually serve fewer than 10 million passengers.

The top 10 facilities were described as being “smaller, friendlier airports” that “excel with their commercial flight offerings, easy access, and amenities,” according to the contest website.

Long Islanders have long turned to MacArthur Airport as the peaceful alternative to the crowded New York City airports. The 10Best voting page notes this, highlighting the Islip Town airport as an alternative for airline passengers “wishing to avoid the big, crowded New York area airports (JFK and LaGuardia).”

“This vote of confidence for MacArthur Airport means so much to us,” Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter said. “We appreciate the support from Long Islanders. We work hard each day to offer customer excellence, new options and amenities at the airport. We take the headache and stress out of air travel.”

Here’s the complete list of the Top Ten winners in the Best Small Airport category:
