Suffolk Police save three escaped pigs on Sunrise Highway

|

If you ever wondered what happened to the Three Little Pigs — well, Suffolk County police just might’ve found them hitchhiking this morning along Sunrise Highway between Bohemia and Sayville.

Three waddling pigs, who had moments before escaped from a moving trailer, were found on the side of the busy road by officers about 11:24 a.m.

Fifth Precinct Sgt. Theodore Martinez was the first to spot the Houdini-esque piggies while driving his unmarked car on the highway.

As he went to help, Martinez spotted a Hummer towing a pen left open with one hog still in it.

“Sergeant Martinez pulled over the vehicle and the operator stated she was transporting four pigs to an animal rescue and was unaware three pigs had escaped,” a police spokesperson said in a release.

Soon, more officers and members of the Sayville Animal Hospital and employees of the Town of Islip arrived on the scene to gather the stocky swines.

According to the police, each of the pigs was secured and appeared uninjured as they were sent for evaluation to the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center in East Quogue, the animals’ first intended destination.
