Jack Coan’s youth lax coach predicted long ago that he would play in the Rose Bowl

|

It was before Jack Coan and his Sayville youth lacrosse coach “even knew football was going to be a thing.”

“He used to tell me that one day he was going to come watch me play in the Rose Bowl,” said Coan, quarterback for the Wisconsin Badgers, who will play Oregon in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. “Pretty amazing.”

Coan, a Sayville High School alum recruited heavily by Division I programs across the country to play lacrosse, was quoting Sayville’s Dave Kolar.

The junior signal caller was speaking this week at a practice day press conference, prior to the team’s trip to Pasadena, California, for the Rose Bowl.

Coan, in his first full season as the Badgers’ first-string signal caller, helped guide No. 8 Wisconsin (10-3) to the Big Ten West title. He has the seventh-best pass completion percentage in the nation and is ranked 15th in the country for pass efficiency.

Earlier this month, he and teammate Tyler Biadasz received Wisconsin offensive MVP honors. The Sayville legend also earned Academic All-Big Ten Team honors for the fall semester.
