Sayville and BBP host menorah lighting ceremonies this Sunday

|

The chambers of commerce for Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point will host evening menorah lighting ceremonies this Sunday in celebration of the first night of Hanukkah.

Both events are set to start at 5 p.m. The Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce ceremony — hosted by Dr. Rosalie Wartenburg, director of Creations Preschool, which operates out of Tifereth Israel Synagogue on Greeley Avenue — takes place outside the chamber house, located at 175 Main St.

Gelt and jelly doughnuts will be served and organizers will lead attendees in holiday themed sing-alongs.

Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce’s menorah lighting is also at 5 p.m. — at Chamber Park (next to JT’s Cafe at end of Nicolls Road). Rabbi Moss of B’Nai Israel in Oakdale will give a blessing. Hot chocolate and tasty treats will be served.

Greater Sayville Chamber President Eileen Tyznar said that this will be the second lighting of the hamlet’s new menorah, purchased last year by the chamber.

“And we’re so happy that our new menorah has found a nice home … in front of the chamber house,” she said. “This is a fun night for all faiths to come together for a night of peace and unity.”
