USA Today nominates MacArthur Airport for “10 Best” small airport award

|

Long counted on as the peaceful alternative to the crowded New York City airports, Long Island MacArthur Airport is now garnering national recognition.

The Islip airport is a nominee for the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Small Airport. The nominees were released this week, and voting takes place through noon on Jan. 13.

Members of the public may cast one vote each day at the 10Best website. Click here to post your votes for MacArthur Airport. The 10 winners will be announced Jan. 24.

“We are honored to be one of the 20 airports selected by a panel of experts,” Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said. “We are hoping our loyal base of travelers and the Long Island community will vote each day,”

The small airport category includes airports with fewer than 10 million passengers each year. The nominees “excel with their commercial flight offerings, easy access and amenities,” according to the 10Best website.

“MacArthur Airport is working hard to provide an excellent customer experience,” said Aviation Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken. “It’s gratifying that the experts participating in the USA Today 10Best Awards recognize MacArthur’s ability to conveniently serve New York travelers.”

MacArthur Airport is owned and operated by the Town of Islip. The airport serves 1.6 million passengers annually — on flights with three major U.S. domestic air carriers: American Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
