Portly Villager hosting Dec. 14 fundraiser for LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum

|

Mark your calendars for this great event to honor a war hero: To raise funds for the LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum in West Sayville, the Portly Villager is hosting a viewing party Dec. 14 during the Army-Navy college football game.

Customers attending the Michael Murphy Benefit can donate $20 and get a free drink and appetizer. The 3 p.m. game is being played in Philadelphia, at Lincoln Financial Field.

You can click here to register and purchase a ticket for the event. The proceeds will go toward the construction of the museum, which is dedicated to Lt. Murphy, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient who was killed leading a team of Navy SEALs in Afghanistan in 2005.

The LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum is being constructed on the waterfront, right next to the Long Island Maritime Museum. It will share the history of the Navy SEALs and host a training facility for U.S. Naval Sea Cadets.

Organizers at the benefit are already selling 50/50 football boxes for the Army-Navy game. They can be purchased at the Portly Villager, located at 261 W. Main St. in Sayville.

“This museum will be a living museum. It will host the LT Michael P. Murphy Navy sea cadets. What a beautiful tribute to a local who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation,” said one of the organizers of the event at the Portly Villager, James Bertsch of Sayville. “We’re looking forward to a great turn-out.”
