Sayville’s Holiday Parade and Miracle on Main Street set for Nov. 30

|

Here comes Santa — along with live reindeer, caroling Dickens characters, an ice skating rink, trolley rides and a one-of-a-kind gingerbread house competition.

The holiday season slides into beast mode in Sayville on Nov. 30 — the Saturday after Thanksgiving — with the 2019 version of Miracle on Main Street and Winter Wonderland.

“It warms my soul to see everyone so happy and our businesses bustling and filled with people on Main Street that day,” said Eileen Tyznar, president of the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce, which is presenting the 13th annual holiday event. “It’s a true hometown feel!”

Here’s a breakdown of what’s in store at what is arguably Long Island’s best holiday block party.

First, the parade

The fun gets started at 10 a.m. with the Holiday Parade down Main Street. Keep an eye out for the Santa float, prancing reindeer and little marching “toy” soldiers, and take in the festive sounds of school marching bands.

Winter Wonderland

Right after the parade — from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — is Shop Small Winter Wonderland, which includes an ice skating rink, a carousel, face painting and pony rides for the kids in the parking lot of Main Street Shopping Plaza (Carvel and Cornucopia), along with plenty of opportunities in Main Street shops to get a leg up on your holiday gift lists.

“We are running two trolleys around town from West Sayville to Sayville, stopping at participating stores offering specials,” Tyznar said.

Miracle on Main Street

Main Street downtown closes to car traffic from 5 to 9 p.m. for Miracle on Main Street. The nighttime festivities include live reindeer, Santa Claus, a carousel ride, live ice sculpting, a lego display, Dickens characters, the popular gingerbread bounce house, and live music and dance performances.

The ceremonial Christmas tree lighting takes place at 6:30 p.m.

Entries for the event’s Gingerbread Competition must be submitted by 4 p.m. at the tent in front of Starbuck’s, 59 Main St. Winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m. with the entries remaining on display until 9 p.m.

“These events are the chamber’s way of saying thank you to our community and our business owners, for all they do to make West Sayville and Sayville the friendly, quaint community that it is,” Tyznar said.
