Paul Simon’s ‘Graceland’ bassist brings his tasty groove to Sayville Fall Fest

|

Paul Simon’s “Graceland” bassist Bakithi Kumalo headlines an array of musical talent performing this Saturday at Sayville’s daylong Fall Fest on Main Street.

Perhaps best known for his groovy bass break on Simon’s mega 1986 hit “You Can Call Me Al,” Kumalo’s must-see-and-hear performance is at 2 p.m. on the Candee Avenue stage.

“You Can Call Me Al” — you may recall the hilarious video that starred a goofy Chevy Chase — was the first single released from “Graceland,” which won the 1986 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Kumalo, who grew up in Soweto during apartheid in South Africa, performed regularly with Simon for decades and has released several solo records.

Be sure check out the music schedule below to see when the other great Fall Fest performers take the stage on Saturday.

The festive event, hosted by the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce, also features a Halloween parade, contests, tons of food vendors and a steady flow of musical entertainment throughout the day.
