Walking strong in Bayport to cure Juvenile Myositis

|

The Cure JM foundation — an organization dedicated to finding a cure for the life-threatening disease Juvenile Myositis — is hosting a walk fundraiser Sunday at James Wilson Young Middle School in Bayport.

“Walk Strong to Cure JM” is being held to support two local Bayport-Blue Point children — Madison Coffey and Bradley VanNess. The event includes a one-mile walk, food and entertainment for all ages.

Juvenile Myositis causes the body’s own immune system to attack healthy cells and tissues, affecting virtually any system of the body, including the heart, lungs, skin and muscles. It affects about three out one million children.

Sunday’s event goes from 10 a.m. to noon, and is free and open to the public. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Walkers can sign up here to participate.

James Wilson Young Middle School is located at 602 Sylvan Ave. in Bayport.
