Jack Coan ran for two touchdowns and completed 13 of 16 passes while guiding a Wisconsin offense that steamrolled No. 11 Michigan for 28 first-half points Saturday, en route to a 35-14 Badgers win.
The Sayville product’s most entertaining play was perhaps his 25-yard gallop to the end zone with just 14 seconds remaining in the first half. Coan finished the run with a head-first dive across the goal line, barely knifing through two converging Michigan defenders.
The hard-nose play came much to the delight of the red-wearing Wisconsin fans, who roared in approval as Coan was mobbed in the end zone by his teammates.
[getty src="1176185691" width="594" height="396" tld="com"]Wisconsin, ranked 13th in the nation coming into this week’s nationally televised home contest in Madison, is sure to move up in the polls after putting down Big Blue and its vaunted defense. Wisconsin led 35-0 before Michigan finally scored with 2:08 left in the third quarter.
Coan, the 2016 Hansen Award winner as Suffolk County’s best high school football player, also scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak in the second quarter and finished the day with 128 yards passing, which was plenty considering Heisman Trophy candidate Jonathan Taylor gained 203 yards on the ground for Wisconsin.
