The Sayville Common Ground at Rotary Park will host a 9/11 Moonlight Memorial Service on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The public is invited to participate in the ceremony, which includes speakers, music and a candlelight Labyrinth Walk. Organizers of the annual service ask that visitors bring chairs, as well as umbrellas in the event of rain.
“The Common Ground at Rotary Park was created after 9/11 to honor the people killed in the terrorist attack,” said Judy Abrams, president of The Common Ground board. “(The service) is our way of remembering those who were lost on that day in 2001.”
A memorial stone at the park reads: “This precious park, conceived in the wake of September 11, 2001, is lovingly offered and maintained by the community. May it stand as a breathing testament to the infinite possibilities present when good people cherish their entire village as home and their neighbor as family. Like the splendid gardens it houses, may it flourish and grow.”
Seven people from communities in the Greater Sayville area were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attack.
