20 Photos: Day One at the Long Island Seafood Festival in West Sayville

|

By Shannon Miller

Thousands of seafood lovers found heaven Saturday at the first day of the 27th annual Long Island Maritime Museum Seafood Festival in West Sayville.

Among the crowd were Steve and Kristin Zmijewski of Sayville. Their first stop — the beer tent. Steve Zmijewski said he came specifically for the cold brew, but his wife enjoys all the event has to offer.

“I come for the music and the vendors,” she said. When it comes to seafood, Steve Zmijewski said, “I don’t discriminate, but we plan to try the crab cake, and the hot dog thingies by the pirate ship.”

The festival, which continues Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. features a seemingly endless supply of shellfish. West Sayville’s Blue Island Oysters and Claws Seafood Market will again be shucking and serving throughout the day, offering up oysters, clams, fried shrimp, lobster rolls and plenty of other tasty treats from the sea. Live music, craft vendors and family activities are also a big part of the event.
