Hammer & Stain Long Island is officially open for business in downtown Sayville.

Owner Sandra Bernius confirmed her group, do-it-yourself woodworking studio is set begin regularly hosting workshops and private party events at its new downtown digs.

Bernius and company spent the last three weeks transforming the former puppy store at 15 Main St. into a shiny new and spacious studio, a significantly larger space than Hammer & Stain’s former home in Bayport. The studio held its first group class on Monday night.

Bernius’ is Long Island’s first Hammer & Stain. In a similar vein to the trendy paint-and-sip classes, guests at Hammer & Stain are guided by instructors through the process of transforming unfinished wood into attractive and colorful personalized works of art.

Customers take on “big build” projects, such as corn hole sets and and porch benches, and smaller jobs like a reindeer box Christmas decoration, Scrabble tiles, wall signs and brag boards.
