Bayport “zombie” house demolished

|

A dilapidated Bayport house that by some estimates has been vacant for 15 years was demolished this week by order of Islip Town.

The two-story, abandoned home at 637 Middle Road had sat boarded up dating back to 2006. Islip’s Town Board unanimously passed a resolution in August 2018 to raze the house and an accessory structure, which were deemed unsafe by the Town of Islip Fire Marshal’s office.

Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Town Board Member Mary Kate Mullen witnessed the demolition of the so-called “zombie” property on Monday.

“A property like this that’s been abandoned and not cared for, brings down property values in a community, and no one wants to see that happen,” Carpenter said. “We will continue to do our part to maintain a quality of life for everyone in the Town of Islip.”

The decaying single-family home was taken down by Panzer Demolition.
