The new Oakdale Brew House celebrates with a four-day grand opening

|

It’s been a mad dash this past year transforming the old Molly Magquires pub in Oakdale into the gleaming new Oakdale Brew House.

This weekend, the Crowe family behind the Brew House took time to celebrate the successful launch of their fourth restaurant on Long Island — the other three being in Babylon.

They also live in Oakdale.

“We’ve lived here for 30 years, put our kids through the district,” said Doreen Crowe. “So we knew a lot of people in the area. Some have been saying Oakdale finally has found its Cheers, where everybody knows everybody.”

Even the general manager, Tim Gay, is a 2010 Connetquot graduate, and at any given time some member of the staff or ownership will likely know at least one person at every table.

“[The people of Oakdale] wanted something like this in the area for a long time,” Doreen said.

The Oakdale Brew House opened June 10 in the Light House Commons plaza on Montauk Highway, just two days after Doreen and Niall Crowe’s daughter Lauren was married.

“The first couple of weeks went very well; we were very happy,” said Niall Crowe. “There were some growing pains but that’s why we didn’t have a grand opening until now. The kitchen staff has to learn to work together.”

Still, the Crowe family and Gay agreed the positive responses have been overwhelming.

They especially enjoy seeing first-timers’ eyes widen upon entering the modern, NYC-style restaurant.

Inside the Oakdale Brew House are two sizable bars, featuring a wide selection of craft beers and local wine. The bar and restaurant has trendy leather bench seating, a late-night kitchen and a hip-looking open ceiling.

“It’s the look,” said Gay. “Everyone comes in and they’re shocked at the way this all turned out, so that’s great when you get to see their faces, when you can visually see it. It’s the best.”

Also the food, he said, has been getting rave reviews, from the wings, to the burnt brussels sprout pizza, to the mini lobster tacos. Click here for the full menu.

Friday’s grand opening and ribbing cutting ceremony at the Brew House was part of a four-day extravaganza this week, which ran from Thursday to today, Sunday, July 28.

Each day, the Brew House was featuring live music and door prizes that included shirts, glassware, cozies, bottle openers, frisbees, sunglass pouches and draft beer stored in the eatery’s signature “OBH” cans.

They were also raffling off a Blue Point Brewing Co. bike and Kona surfboard.

Among the dignitaries at Friday’s ribbon-cutting was state Senator Monica Martinez, as well as Islip Town Board members.

“It’s a great day for the Oakdale community, the community as a whole,” she said. “It’s a great place. The food is delicious and I think it’s great when you have families expanding business and participating in economic development in our neighborhoods.”
