Sayville Rotary’s 68th annual ‘Beefsteak’ fundraiser is Aug. 1 at L.I. Maritime Museum

You can almost smell and taste it coming.
The Sayville Rotary Club‘s 68th annual Beefsteak fundraiser cookout is just days away. This Thursday at 5 p.m., about 400 people — some from towns across Suffolk County — are expected to hunker down under a giant tent at the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville to enjoy grilled filet mignon, clams and cold beer and soda.

“Proceeds raised from Beefsteak give us the ability to do our charitable acts throughout the year, while allowing us to interact with our largest donor and supporter base to thank them for making all we do possible,” said Andy Wittman, the Rotary Club’s social media director.

“And it gives us the chance to spend time with family and friends on the grounds of the historic Maritime Museum with majestic views of the Great South Bay,” he added.

The Aug. 1 feast kicks off at 5 p.m. with visitors dining on delicious clams and sipping ice cold beverages. Then at 6:30 p.m. — just when the crowd can hardly take the enticing aroma of grilled meat without having a bite — the filet mignon will be served, together with sliced tomatoes and corn on the cob.
The event includes live music by Ed Travers and a beautiful sunset.
Tickets purchased in advance are $75; at the door, tickets cost $90. Tickets are available at The Cull House in Sayville, People’s Bank in Bayport, Century 21 in Sayville, The Monumental Group in Sayville and TD Bank in Sayville.
Funds raised at Beefsteak benefit the following organizations and initiatives:
  • Camp Paquatuck in Center Moriches — 12-week summer camp for children with special needs
  • ORG — a group providing basic necessities to 5,000-plus homeless veterans on Long Island.
  • Gift of Life — a Long Island-based, international program providing life-saving heart surgeries to children across the world.
  • End Polio Now — a Rotary International initiative to eradicate Polio, worldwide.
  • Clean Water Initiatives — Rotary International’s ongoing efforts to provide clean, sanitary water to parts of the world that still lack this basic need.
The event is also sponsoring two local veterans.
“It is very important to Sayville Rotary to continue to recognize, honor and show our ongoing support and appreciation for our veterans,” Wittman said. “[The sponsorships] piggyback on other efforts Sayville Rotary accomplishes throughout the year for veterans.”
