Sayville Cinemas re-opens following minor ceiling collapse

|

Sayville Cinemas re-opened Sunday after a water leak Saturday afternoon caused a small piece of sheetrock to crumble and fall on a child.

The neighborhood theater — one of the few of its kind on Long Island — reported that the fire marshall and electricians deemed the facility safe to operate.

“We wouldn’t be open if we weren’t completely sure it was safe,” said a member of the theater’s management team. “All of the necessary precautionary measures were taken overnight.”

Debris from the crumbling sheetrock fell on a child, News 12 reported. Theater management told GreaterSayville.com that EMT personnel examined the customer that the debris fell on and determined the person did not need further medical treatment, theater management said.

The first show on Sunday was Toy Story 4 at 12:15 p.m. Annabelle Comes Home, Child’s Play and The Secret Life of Pets 2 were showing on the theater’s other three screens. Visit the theater’s website for showtimes.

Sayville Cinemas, popular for its $5 matinee tickets and inexpensive concession prices, recently renovated one of its four theaters, including the installation of leather seats. The screens and sound system were replaced in each theater.
