Members of Bayport-Blue Point’s girls varsity lacrosse team — the Suffolk County Class C champions — were honored by the Islip Town Board at the board’s June meeting.

Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and members of the board — including Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen whose daughter played on the team — congratulated the girls on the school’s first championship since 2014.

Bayport-Blue Point knocked off top-seeded Mount Sinai, 7-6, to win the Suffolk Class C championship on May 30.

The Phantoms finished their memorable season 15-3 overall, falling 5-4 to defending state champion Cold Spring Harbor in the Long Island Class C championship at Adelphi.

The future looks bright indeed for girls lacrosse in Bayport-Blue Point. The middle school girls team was undefeated this spring.
