The evolution of 20th century vintage style will be on full display Friday night at Sayville’s VFW hall during a fashion show fundraiser hosted by the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce and the Paper Doll Vintage Boutique.
Business owners are presenting The Paper Doll Vintage Fashion Show Benefit Gala from 7-10 p.m. to help the boutique recover from a predatory business lending scam that forced the closure of Paper Doll’s Huntington store and nearly shuttered the Sayville shop.
“Through legal avenues, we were able to settle with the scam … but the settlement still left us with damages and legal fees that threaten the sustainability of our shops,” said Dominique Maciejka, who owns the Sayville boutique and the Paper Doll Curiosity Shoppe in Patchogue with her business partner Joseph Laspina.
“We hope to get back on our feet with this event,” she continued. “I’m really touched by how many people have contributed to help make it happen.”
Eight models — one for each decade from the 1920s-1990s — will each present two looks during the fashion show, while Maciejka narrates historical context explaining why the styles changed over the decades. Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Tyznar is among those walking the runway.
“This is runway with an important cause — supporting small businesses,” Tyznar said. “Paper Doll Vintage has been a wonderful presence in our Sayville town, and we need to help support and give back to our small business owners who might need assistance from time to time.”
The event also features live music from The Jewel Tones, sets from DJ Nightingale, food from local restaurants, Roxy’s Ice Cream Truck, raffle prizes, tarot readings, a photo booth and a cash bar.
