From 2-6 p.m., the West Sayville seafood market will team up with Blue Island Oyster Co. for “Protect the Bay, Oyster Day,” an event aimed at building awareness of simple measures that people can take to curb pollution and revitalize the bay.
“We want people to understand that what you put on your lawn, the pesticides you use and the type of plants you put in the ground all affect the Great South Bay,” Claws owner Frank Palermo said. “That’s my livelihood in the Great South Bay.”

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the president and founder of Blue Island Oyster Co. and Operation Blue Earth, Chris Quartuccio.Ā The Sayville resident will be available to answer questions about Operation Blue Earth and oyster farming on the Great South Bay.
